Seniors

Hanscom Composite Squadron is recognized one of the leading squadrons in the Massachusetts Wing, an accomplishment we are very proud of. By performing homeland security, humanitarian missions and developing our country's youth, the squadron is comprised of a dedicated team of professional volunteers who are proud to be serving America.

Our senior members join Civil Air Patrol for a variety of reasons and senior membership of the Civil Air Patrol provides  a variety of opportunities. Our members join to fly, work as a ground team member, work with cadets, become an aerospace education officer, or to take advantage of the many other opportunities in CAP.

If you are a licensed pilot, you can become a Mission Transport Pilot, transporting supplies, equipment and personnel to needed locations. You can also train to become a Mission Pilot, where you will be qualified to fly search and rescue missions. Other aircrew positions include Mission Observer and Scanner, both crucial to the search and rescue effort.

If flying is not your thing,  there are many other opportunities open to you within the Civil Air Patrol. You could consider becoming a Ground Team Member. In this specialty, you will be trained to search for downed aircraft, missing persons, or an errant ELT signal.

Current areas of service for seniors within the Civil Air Patrol are:

  • Emergency Services

  • Cadet Programs

  • Aerospace Education

Within the areas of service that are a number of jobs (or what we call specialty tracks) available to our senior members.

Senior members pick up to five specialty tracks and then begin training within those specialty tracks. The specialty track selection process allows you to determine the CAP duty assignment you desire and figure out what training you need. You can choose whatever you want to study and change it later if you wish.

CAP realizes that most senior members have little time for classroom tasks, so the program relies heavily on the “on-the-job” training concept utilizing specialty track study guides.

Current Specialty Tracks open to seniors within the Civil Air Patrol are:
